When it comes to car holders, there's not really a lot you can say. They either work well, or they don't. Luckily in the case of the Brodit C500 car holder, the former is true.

The Brodit system for mounting devices in-car is two fold. First you have the actual device holder which is tailor made for each device to ensure a perfect fit at all times. Secondly you have the ProClip on which the device holder is mounted. The ProClip is tailor made to fit your specific car so it blends in seamlessly and doesn't clutter up your air vents.

Installation of the two items was supposed to be easy and, in the case of the ProClip, I'm sure this would normally be true if it weren't for the location the clip has to be mounted in this particular car. The main problem I had was that the ProClip needs to be mounted in and around the head unit facia of my girlfriend's car. The problem with this is, I removed the factory head unit long ago in favour of my nice Blaupunkt unit and the ProClip needs to slot down the side of the extra facia of the factory head unit. So the ProClip is now rendered useless. My only other option would be to screw the ProClip to the dash but I'm not in favour of making nasty holes in the dashboard of my missus' car. Instead I opted not to use the ProClip at all and use the glue strips on the phone holder to mount it to the dash, which worked perfectly. As you'll see from the pictures, the viewing angle on the phone isn't exactly optimal for the driver but as she does most of the driving anyway it doesn't really matter.

So, would I recommend the Brodit C500 car holder and ProClip? In essence yes. It's a very good system. The phone holder does its job very well and doesn't look to bad either. Even with the problems I had, I would still recommend the ProClip. Just make sure it will fit in your car first if you have any misgivings. The Brodit website has sketches of where the ProClip will fit in your car, have a look where it goes and check you haven't made any modifications to the car that might cause you problems. If you think you have, email Brodit and I'm sure they'd be only too happy to help.

The C500 holder and ProClip are available for Brodit's official UK distributor, Nemesis (GB) LTD
