Further to my rant about how HP printers suck, I finally got round to giving them a call and seeing what they'd say about the new printer's dodgy scanner. To my amazement, not only did they offer to outright replace it but they told me they'd be sending it to me first - i.e. not making me send ours then wait forever for them to check it over / repair it / whatever before sending me one back. After my ordeal with Microsoft and the 360, HP have re-ignited my faith in big brand companies....well, their company at least ;) Microsoft could learn a lot from HP in this department!

Thanks HP! You printers may be dodgy but at least you have a decent warranty service to back it up :D
