No, not the reptile ;) What I'm teaching today is how you can use your OneForAll Kameleon remote to control your Xbox 360 via Infra Red :D Why? Well, there are a couple of reasons: firstly, if you switch off in-game music because you want to play your own music off the hard drive, usb storage device or from your networked computer, you can't use the controller to change tracks in-game! Well, you can't in PGR3 anyway. No, what you have to do is press the big, silver Xbox button, wait for the blade to slide out, scroll down and change it there. As I'm sure you can imagine, that is not very practicle! However, that is not a problem when using a remote, you just press the next/prev buttons and it changes the track :) Secondly, whilst OneForAll are pretty good with support, they don't update their downloads very often, if at all. You have to contact them via a form, wait a few days for them to email you back, ring the free-phone number they give you (it's not published on their site!), try to upgrade the remote over the phone and if that fails, wait for them to mail you the sound file...which they don't always do. Thirdly, when hooked up to a decent sound system, the Xbox 360 is a bloody good music player when it comes to sound quality, much better than XBMC and it's nice to be able to switch it on/off and control it with a remote as opposed to a controller. Finally, if you have a universal remote then use it to control everything you possibly can! I see no point in forking out anything extra for one of Microsoft's overpriced offerings. How? Well, if you have a 2nd generation Kameleon 6 (URC-8206), you can download the .wav file from me to play on your computer that will upgrade your remote! :D If you have another OFA remote, you can call them free on (UK) +44 (0) 808 1000 306 :) To upgrade the remote using your PC: press and hold the "Magic" (rabbit/hat) key until the display changes. Press "Other" and enter "997". When the display turns off, put the remote (face first) up against one of your speakers and play the .wav file. When it finishes playing, the remote display should turn back on. If it doesn't, wait 30secs and try again. To use the new codes that you have just upgraded the remote with: press and hold "Magic" again, hit "Dev Set", hit the "DVD" button and enter code "1708". Congrats! You can now control your Xbox 360 via IR remote for free! :D
