Well, after 37 days (25 working days exactly!), my 360 finally turned up yesterday afternoon. Needless to say, since then my head's been buried in Forza 2 :D Above is my first attempt at paint-job customizing. For some strange reason Forza 2 doesn't have the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, so I decided to paint a 997 GT3 to look like one :) You can hardly tell the difference: http://www.porsche.com/germany/models/911/911-gt3-rs/gallery/?gtabindex=3&gitemindex=7 |

The Audi S1 Quattro is quite possibly my all time dream car but one of my other dreams in life is to power something with a turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa engine. This video shows just how awesome the S1 is and how equally awesome that Hayabusa engine is! :D |

There were a lot of cool concept cars in the early to mid 90s. One that sticks in my mind had a feature that allowed it to be either left-hand drive or right-hand drive - the steering wheel could be moved from one side of the car to the other. Very cool. Unfortunately, like the Lincoln below, that concept and countless others never saw the light of day. Sad :( Filed under: Transportation It's not often we cover fourteen year old cars 'round here, but it's also not often that a rare concept vehicle with crazy "disappearing" doors turns up on eBay. That's what happened to this one-of-a-kind Lincoln Mark VIII, which narrowly avoided the scrap heap back in the day and apparently went on to make one owner very happy all these years. As the story goes, Lincoln commissioned Joalto Design to modify the car after worrying about its ability to fit in tight parking spaces. Joalto's solution was to have the door slide under the car, a process that turned out to be surprisingly graceful (check out the video above). For some unknown reason, Lincoln turned 'em down and ordered the vehicle destroyed. Needless to say, that didn't happen, and this piece of automotive futurism could now be yours for the right price (Iast we checked bidding was around the $19,000 mark with the reserve not yet met). MS are pissing me off left, right and center recently! This rant pertains to issues with Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 and Windows Live OneCare 1.6
The basic issue is this: when you plug a device into your computer, for some reason it interferes with whatever network you're connected to (might be due to the fact that since WM5, WM devices are classed as "network adapters", not "USB devices" ) and OneCare then changes the firewall settings from "Automatic" to "Restricted", stopping the device from syncing. If you open the "Network and Sharing Center" while plugging in a device, you'll notice the network you're connected to suddenly starts saying "identifying..". This is the bit where OneCare thinks you're on an unsecured network and locks you down...ghey.
Why? God knows! I'm yet to figure that bit out but for the moment, here's a work around: open up OneCare, select "Change OneCare settings" (on the left) then go to the "Firewall" tab. Then, under "Other settings", untick "Automatically change my firewall protection level...". Unplug/plugin your device and all should be well, assuming you have allowed WMDC in the firewall in the first place that is ;) (Click the "firewall connection tool" button and make sure Activesync/WMDC is ticked).
No, it's not a great method but until either a) they fix the issue or b) i can figure out how to stop WM devices interfering when connecting, it'll have to do :(
UPDATE:Â I've found a way round it and it's so easy anyone can do it! What is it? Install OneCare Beta 2.0 :D |

...er, I doubt it.
So I just ran Windows Update after my recent fresh install of Vista Home Premium and what greeted me upon reboot? "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting" oh and we're disabling Aero. Now, my copy of VHP came pre-installed on my laptop from PC World and when I fresh installed the other day, I did it from my recovery partition, also pre-installed. So, what gives MS? I'm running a perfectly legal copy of Vista and yet you've decided to give me grief for it?
So I clicked the link, which opened in Firefox, didn't work in Firefox (because MS are pigheaded) and got stuck in an endless loop of crap. I finally managed to copy the URL into IE7, download/install the WGA tool and sort it out but I shouldn't have had to in the first place!
The irony here of course is that people running cracked/patched copies of Vista have had no problems whatsoever with these latest updates. Bloody ridiculous!
Incidentally, if I was going to pirate Vista, why in God's name would I pirate Home Premium?
So, in summery, Microsoft disabled bits of my OEM pre-installed copy of Vista Home Premium because a recent update decided it may be counterfeit. Er..common sense Microsoft? |
