Out with the old…

...and in with the new! :D

Our old faithful Officejet 7110 decided to start dying on us last week. It's always had an issue with the scanner but that issue became terminal so due to that, the fact that the black printhead was flaky and the colour ink had run out, we decided to look for something to replace it with. We needed a printer that could:

  • Print - obviously
  • Fax
  • Scan
  • Duplex (double sided printing)

...it also had to be networkable and have an ADF (auto document feeder). You'd be surprised how few printers there are out there that tick all those boxes. The Officejet 7130 seemed like the obvious choice but at around £250...it was priced a little steep. Enter everyone's favorite online auction site, Ebay. With some crafty sniping (courtesy of jbidwatcher), we managed to snag an ex-demo 7310, which had printed a mere 52 pages, for princely sum of £130. Bargain! :D

Microsoft: WTF!?
Written by Alex (nedge2k)

So a while ago (June 2nd!) my Xbox 360 went off for repair. At the time I was told the usually 5 working days - which was fine. Later that week, I called them up to check how things were going (ie when I was getting it back) and they told me 10-15 working days! Numerous phone calls later and a pitiful excuse for compensation (a wireless controller...woo  ) and here we are, June 28th, 26 days and nothing. I rang again today. Guess what I'm now being told? 20-25 working days!! Seriously MS...WTF!? It's bad enough they don't seem to have any UK call centres (no, that's not a racist comment, it's just easier to talk to someone who natively speaks the same language as you...that's all), that all their support staff just read from scripts, that they refuse to let you speak to a supervisor when you ask (well, most of the time) and that they tell bare faced lies but 20-25 days to repair the damned console!? Even more annoying is that they claim they only received the console on the 16th, when the UPS tracking showed the console was delivered on the 3rd! What were they doing with it for 13 days? Trying, in vain, to play PGR for any length of time?

Anyway, I got fedup of the X360 support staff and decided to give Microsoft's Reading HQ a quick call... 20 minutes later and I finally got through to someone who knew what he was talking about. He assured me he'd kick some ass to get my console back to me so watch this space! I'm not holding my breath but there is a glimmer of hope in there...somewhere ;)

VRX’s triple-screen racing simulator uses Xbox 360 Elite

Yes please! Notice also the Harman / Kardon amp, good choice ;) All I need now  is another two LCDs, a bucket seat, a few more 360's and copies of Forza and I'm set! :P

Man, talk about leaving the Home Pro Racing Simulator in the proverbial dust. VRX has introduced a swank new racing sim of its own designed with a Forza Motorsports 2 theme and a trio of 37-inch Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD TVs. The frame is constructed from CNC machined polished aluminum, and envelopes the gamer by curiously including just one Sparco seat along with four Xbox 360 Elites, four copies of Forza Motorsport 2, an Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on player, camera / wireless headset, a Zune, force feedback wheel, and surround sound as well. Sure, brush it off as overkill if you please, but those who are sick of draining quarters dollars at the arcade can contact the company to experience the presumed sticker shock for themselves.
